The car, called a “supermini” was first sold in 2006. It follows the popular Peugeot 206 and was originally launched only in Italy, France and Spain. Shortly afterwards, it became available in other countries.

Although Peugeot the 207 was planned to replace the Peugeot 206, the latter has been so popular and such a best seller that Peugeot decided to continue producing it as well. Both cars are on the market at present.

Engine Specs

The Peugeot 207 is available with five different gas engines as well as two diesel options. Under the gasoline category, there is a choice of the 1.4 L engine with either 75 or 80 horsepower and the 1.6 L 110, 120 or 150 hp, with the 150 being a turbo-powered version.

The diesel engines are the 1.4 L with 68 hp and the 1.6 L with 90 or 110 hp. The 110 hp is achieved through the installation of an intercooler. An alternative version of the Peugeot 207 has also been produced that is run on a hydrogen fuel cell

Body Features

The Peugeot 207 is currently produced in just two body styles, the three doors or five doors hatchback. However that is set to change in 2007 with the introduction of a coupe convertible, followed by a sedan, mini SUV and the possibility of a mini MPV.

With sleek, fabulous body design, the Peugeot 207 is a very nice car just to look at. Billed as the next generation hatchback, it lives up to its name, this is no regular hatchback!

Despite being called a supermini, the Peugeot 207 is actually larger than the average hatchback, offering more cargo space as well as more space for its highly mature design.

Interior Features

The Peugeot 207 offers a comfy interior with a fully adjustable steering wheel that allows for any size driver. The seats are well-designed and also adjustable. The rear seats fold down to leave more cargo space, especially for longer items that need to lay across the seat tops. The seats all have adjustable head rests and the Sport model features sports seats that hug the body.

Everything within the car is ergonomically designed and this is a big improvement over its predecessor, the 206. The dashboard is futuristic in its design and the entire interior screams comfort.

Safety features are big as well, with four air bags, plus head curtain air bags and anti-lock brakes. Electronic brake force distribution is also standard, as are three point seatbelts and child car seat setups. This car has passed safety tests with flying colors.

Space is a big issue in cars like these, but the Peugeot 207 has made the car as spacious as possible for being a supermini. A large glove box holds papers and other useful items that need to be kept close at hand, while a shelf above is perfect for carrying cell phones and beepers among other things.

There is also a dual-zone air conditioner and a fragrance dispenser for that not-so-fresh feeling! The high end stereo system adds music to the ambiance and is well-worth testing out on a long drive.

Handling

The Peugeot 207 is well-known for being a balanced, reliable car on the road. It hugs the curves, but doesn’t get slippy. With a redesigned 206 suspension system, the car handles nicely on the road and cushions its occupants well.

Other Versions

There are new versions of the Peugeot 207 coming out frequently. Currently Peugeot has several versions on the go. The Peugeot SW Outdoor Concept, R-Cup, and RC are all ready to hit the market shortly.

These three new versions of the car are all very sporty in their design. The RC is a high-performance car that will thrill buyers with its four bucket seats, 1.6 L turbo pressure engine and 175 horsepower. The SW Outdoor Concept is another sporty version of the Peugeot 207.

The R-Cup is specifically designed for the track and it looks the part, with a central racing stripe and four point harness seat belts. It also features a front air dam and rear spoiler to help hold it to the road at high speeds.
