General Introduction

The Chevrolet Colorado/Canyons are predecessor of the Chevrolet S10 and GMC Sonomahe introduced in year 2004 by General Motors. Isuzu, a Japanese company that has helped in designing the truck started selling i-version of the truck in late 2005. The Chevrolet Colorado and Canyons are a joint venture of GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu. This mid-sized trucks is based on the GMT355 design which itself is basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3.

Before Colorado /Canyons Ford Ranger was considered leader among compact pickup trucks. The lead, however, was taken up by Colorado/canyons in 2005 by almost 35% . In year 2006, their sales in US surpassed the new best-seller Toyota Tacoma by 34% as well.

Design

All Colorado and canyons are fitted with 6-lug wheels and both the 2WD and 4WD have equal back spacing. However, 2007 model Colorado has come out in new colors, new tires, wheels and have very powerful engines fitted in them. Model 2007 of this truck offers both manual and automatic transmissions. New body styles include standard, extended and four-door crewcab and that too in both 2WD and 4WDs.
Engine

Just like a healthy heart in human body, powerful engine extends the life of the vehicle. That is why; GM's mid-sized truck range have new-generation engines. The Chevrolet Colorado has 2.9l L LLV14 and 3.7L LLR15 engines which are as powerful as 185 hp and 242 hp respectively.

Different Versions

Chevy Colorado Zq8 Sports
Another edition known as ZQ8 is also manufactured by GM. ZQ8 are lower and more road tuned sport suspension trucks. Its main features include 17 inch, low profile fender flare and matching bumper and grille.

Xtreme ZQ8

This is the advanced edition of ZQ8. Almost every thing about this model from front and rear bumper, side skirts, fender flares, grille and headlights to wheels is different from that of older ZQ8. The Xtreme comes with wheels of 18 inches.

Chevy Colorado Z71

The Chevy Colorado Z71 is a 4-door version. It comes with a very powerful engine 3.5L L52 I5 as compared to the standard engine of LK5 14. Another important feature of Z71 is its 4-speed automated transmission standard. The Z71 package was later dropped in favour LT2 and LT3.
