Introduction

The production of BMW series 8 was ceased in 1999 and a total number of 30621 cars were manufactured by the company worldwide. Series 8 car is a two door car with either a V8 or a V2 type engine. The car can achieve a maximum speed of 186 mph. a new series 8 car has a total cost of a hundred thousand dollars. The car was designed in 1984 and was approved two years later after which the production started in the year 1986. After being successfully produced, the car was launched in the Frankfurt motor show in the year 1989.

Models

Different Models of the BMW series 8 were introduced in different years. These models were different in characteristics from the others in the series. These models are described as below:

830Ci

This model of the BMW series 8 was manufactured by the company in the year 1992 and lasted for only one year. It uses M60B30 V8 engine with volume of 2997 cubic centimeter. The engine uses Nikasil alloy in it. The engine comes with a power of 160 kW or 214.56 hp and can produce a maximum torque of 290 Nm or 213.86 lb ft. the model was a complete failure and only 18 cars were produced.

840Ci

The model was a replacement of the 830Ci and the global production period was from 1993 to 1995. It uses M60B40 V8 engine with a volume of 3982 cubic centimeter. The engine uses Nikasil alloy. It comes with strength of 210 kW or 281.61 hp and can produce a maximum torque of 400 Nm or 294.99 lb ft. It comes with a 4 speed automatic transmission. The car showed better results and a total number of 4728 cars were produced with 1649 of them being produced in the US and Canada.

The 840Ci was re launched in the year 1996 with slight modifications and was successfully produced till 1999. It used M62 B44 V8 engine in it which was different from that of the one used in previous 840Ci model. The make of the engine was also different and it used Alusil alloy in it. The volume was 4398 cubic centimeter. It came with engine strength of 210 kW or 281.61 hp and could produce a maximum torque of 420 Nm or 209.73 lb ft. It comes with a 4 speed automatic transmission. The car underperformed and a total number of 3075 cars were produced with 801 of them being produced in the US and Canada.

850i/Ci

The 850i/Ci was first manufactured in the year 1989 and the production continued till 1994. It was a famous model of the BMW series 8 and showed good results in its sales. A total number of 20072 cars were produced globally out of which 4194 were produced in the US and Canada. The car used M70B50 V12 type engine with a volume of 4988 cubic centimeter. The engine used Alusil type alloy. The engine had strength of 220 kW or 295 hp and could produce a maximum torque of 450 Nm or 332 lb ft. It came with either a 4 speed automatic transmission or a 6 speed manual transmission.

850Ci

The 850Ci was slightly modified and re launched in the year 1994 and continued to be produced till 1999. It used M73B54 engine in it with a volume of 5379 cubic centimeter. The engine strength was 240 kW or 322 hp and could produce a maximum torque of 490Nm or 361 lb ft. 1218 numbers of the model were produced globally out of which 363 were produced in the US and Canada.

850CSi

The production period of 850CSi was from 1992 to 1996. The car used S70B56 engine with a volume of 5576 cubic centimeter. The engine came with strength of 280kW or 375 hp and could produce a maximum torque of 550Nm or 405 lb ft. It came with either a 4 speed automatic transmission or a 6 speed manual transmission. A total number of 1510 cars were produced out of which 225 were produced in the US and Canada. It was the most powerful car of the BMW Series 8 cars.
