The famous car maker called BMW launched two unique automobiles aptly known as BMW 6. The first of the 6 series was the E24 which was launched in August of 1976. Since then, many BMW 6 series cars have rolled off the assembly line.

The latest of the line is the 2007 BMW 6-Series 650CI Coupe and the 2007 BMW 6-Series 650CIC Convertible.

General Introduction

The latest of the BMW 6 series is the 2007 BMW 6-Series 650CI which is a “gran tourismo”, two door, 4.8L V8 engine, 6 speed automatic / manual / semi-automatic, rear wheel drive vehicle. It is available in coupe and convertible models.

As a “Gran Turismo” car, the BMW 6 series is designed for comfortable driving, good enough for thousands of miles. It is also a sports car, sleek and powerful with enough power under the hood to run with the fastest cars on the road. With its luxurious interior and exterior design and its powerful and capable performance, the BMW 6 series is GT car to a t.

The 2007 BMW 6-Series 650CI Coupe and 2007 BMW 6-Series 650CIC Convertible is available at prices ranging from $74,000 - $81,000.

Design

The 2007 BMW 6-Series 650CI features a long wheelbase, abbreviated overhangs and standard 18 inch wheels that add to the sleek, fast look of the car. It is 4.80 meters in length, 1.90 meters in breadth and 1.40 meters in height.

The car features body color front and rear bumpers, chrome trims around the windows, front fog lights, projector beam lens Bi-Xenon headlights, heat reflective glass, luxury trim alloy and leather on the gearknob, leather on the doors, alloy look on the dashboard, metallic paint, and a host of other luxurious and functional features.

One of the unique features of the 2007 BMW 6-Series 650CI is an optional Head-Up Display (HUD). The HUD enables the driver to read information about the current status of the car and his driving without lowering his eyes from the road. This is done by the presence of a projection unit located in the dashboard of the car which creates an image containing the necessary data needed by the driver and projects this data on the windscreen. The driver sees this image at a point that appears to be just above the bonnet or hood, some two meters in front of him. This feature greatly reduces the dangerous possibility that the driver's attention may be distracted from the road and greatly reduces the risk of accidents.

The car also has an optional GPS featuring a high-resolution 16:9 screen that can be vertically split. The route map is visible on one side of the screen and the arrow graphics can be seen on the other side. The destinations used by the GPS are stored in either a DVD or a CD-ROM.

Performance

The 6-series car features a 4.4 liter v8 engine with an output of 245 kW (333 bhp) that can propel the car from 0 to 100 in 5.6 seconds. It has a rated total fuel consumption (EU) ratio of 11.7 liter per 100km.

The BMW 6-series also has an optional sport mode. When the sport mode is activated by pressing the “Sport” button at the foot of the center console, the car's performance changes noticeably. This “Sport” mode translates to gear changes that are faster with the SMG transmission, suspension settings that are adjusted to a sportier mode and a throttle and steering response that is increased into a more aggressive stance. The effects of these changes are particularly noticeable when the car is accelerating out of bends and when it is overtaking.

Other Features

The BMW 6 series also has an extensive package safety measures. The body has an extremely high flexural and torsional rigidity and has invisible deformation elements. This allows the bodywork to withstand impacts of up to 15 km/hr without damage. Furthermore, it has strengthened side members and a complete airbag system.

Another feature of the BMW 6 series is its adaptive headlights that calculate the line of an approaching bend and adjusts the two xenon beams to follow the bend accordingly. This results in up to 90 per cent better illumination of the road.
